PDF version

The Medical Students’ Association of Kenya (MSAKE) is the umbrella body of all the medical students association in Kenya. It is the organization that represents the Kenyan medical students in the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA). These organizations are solely run by medical students assisted by the different associate organizations.

The organizational structure of MSAKE.

MSAKE is governed by an executive body and a secretariat that is appointed in office annually after a thorough vetting process. The executive board is comprised of the National Officers who head each Standing Committee while the Secretariat, headed by the Secretary General consists of four secretaries, who deal with external affairs, capacity building,

The Secretary General is the head of the entire body and oversees the running of the entire organization.

The Standing Committees

MSAKE is structured just like the IFMSA. It has 6 Standing Committees which are:

  • Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE): It deals with organizing exchange programs between medical students in the different National Member Organizations in the IFMSA.
  • Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH): It raises awareness about issues in public health and organizes events related to the same.
  • Standing Committee on Rights and Peace (SCORP): Raising awareness and mobilizing medical students to take action in promoting international peace.
  • Standing Committee on Medical Education (SCOME): It organizes events and creates a forum for medical students to be equipped with knowledge outside the routine medical curricula.
  • Standing Committee on Reproductive health including HIV/AIDs (SCORA): Raises awareness on reproductive health and HIV/AIDs among medical students in order to impact the community.

Through each of these standing committees MSAKE executes its daily activities and reaches out to medical students. Each of these Standing Committees organizes unique activities that targets to increase the capacity of medical students. Students are encouraged to plug in and proactively engage in the activities organized by each of these standing committees in order to enrich their experience in medical school and to gain fundamental skills that are not necessarily part of the curriculum. This realizes the eventual goal of being whole rounded medical practitioners who are not only well equipped but also have a global health perspective in the medical field.
