University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi and University of South Alabama President Dr. Tony Waldrop signing MoU's.
University of Nairobi (UoN) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Peter Mbithi, College of Health Sciences (CHS) Principal, Prof. Isaac Kibwage, and UoN Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (UNITID) Deputy Director Prof. James Machoki M’Imunya returned to the country after a successful visit to USA in the month of October.
The delegation got an opportunity to visit several universities in the US during the visit that was facilitated through the Partnership for Innovative Medical Education in Kenya (PRIME-K) Project.
On 7th to 9th the delegation visited the University of South Alabama and signed three MoU's. The MOU's were signed by the Vice-Chancellor, University of Nairobi, Prof. Peter Mbithi and the President, University of South Alabama, Dr. Tony Waldrop.
On 10th to 13th October, the delegation visited the University of Washington (UW), which has been UoN’s longstanding partner.
During the visit, the delegation held various meetings with top UW leadership including the Dean, School of Medicine, Dean, School of Environment and Global Health staff and they deliberated on future collaborative research and training activities between the two universities. Prof. Mbithi also held a meeting with the President of UW.
Later on, the delegation got a chance to meet with Kenyans studying various degree programes at the university's School of Public Health and Global Health.
On 14th to 15th, the UoN delegation visited the Washington State University (WSU) which focuses on veterinary sciences, Pullman.The delegation met with Prof. Guy H. Palmer, Regents Professor of Pathology and Infectious Diseases, Chair and Senior Director of Global Health to discuss new collaborative research and training activities.During the visit, the delegation held meetings with the Director of the Hospital, Dean of Graduate Studies and were taken on a tour of the hospital and microbiology laboratories.

The VC, UoN met with the interim President of WSU and agreed to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding for future collaboration.
While still in the US, Prof. Kibwage and Prof. Machoki attended the 48th Society for Research Administrators (SRA) International Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV.
The meeting that targets research management professionals was a five-day event that was held from 17th to 21st October, 2015, at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas.
During this meeting, the UoN team interacted with research leaders, professionals and administrators from across the globe and this gave them an opportunity to network, learn, share, and transform ideas into solutions.
This annual event offers more than 135 innovative learning sessions and it features a full slate of industry, government and subject matter expert speakers, as well as the prestigious Senior Executive Institute, focused specifically on the needs of high level decision-makers.
