College of Health Sciences acting Principal Prof. Fredrick Were lifts the trophy the College won for emerging overall winners after it was presented to him by students and staff.

The College of Health Sciences recognized students and staff teams that emerged overall winners during the inaugural University of Nairobi Annual Sports Day held on 28th February, 2018.

The teams were treated to a dinner at CCU on 25th May, 2018 and awarded certificates in a colorful event that was presided over by the acting CHS Principal Prof. Fredrick Were.

Speaking during the event, Prof. Were, congratulated staff and students who participated in the event and scooped more than 10 trophies. He challenged them to work hard and bring more trophies in similar events in the coming years.

“In the 1980s when I was a student, we had JJ Masiga, a Dental Student who was playing for the national team, Harambee Stars. You can pursue your careers and sports at the same time,” he said.

Prof. Were also revealed that a Sports Complex will soon be built at the college by the East African Kidney Institute and will be funded by Africa Development Bank.

“With that sports facility, we shall be winning all trophies,” Prof. Were noted.

UoN Sports Director, Mr. Mbaabu Muriithi urged CHS sports team to be prepared for a bruising battle in the coming years saying the event will be very competitive in the coming years. He urged student to pursue sports vigorously as it has the ability to give people fame, good health and wealth.

Several games were played during the inaugural UoN Sports Day including football, volleyball, rugby, netball, basketball and swimming among others.

Present during the event were Prof. Regina Mutave, Dean School of Dental Science, Prof. Edward Nguu and Mrs. Rose Marete, Games Tutor, CHS.
