The University of Nairobi in partnership with Kenyatta University, Maseno University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology, and the University of Washington received a grant titled ‘Health-Professional Education Partnership Initiative (HEPI)’ - Kenya from the United States Government to support health professional training. The program is offering an innovative educational program integrated into the elective term to strengthen research and clinical experiences of health professional students and improve linkages between Universities, MOH and affiliated teaching facilities.

AIM OF THE RESEARCH ELECTIVE

The aim of this elective is to increase the pipeline of young Kenyan researchers by offering an innovative 10-week research elective that targets medicine, nursing and pharmacy students undergoing clinical undergraduate (Bachelors) degrees at the 4 universities. Learning Objectives At the end of the elective period participants should be able to:

  1. Explain the role of health research in improving the quality of health care delivery
  2. Demonstrate skills in documentation, interpretation and use of medical records in a health facility §Gain an understanding of principles of ethical and responsible conduct of health research
  3. Conduct an inter-professional multi-disciplinary mentored health micro-research project.

APPLICATION PROCESS

1. Application letter addressed to the respective Dean/Director of your School.

2. Personal statement – In a 500 words statement describe how the elective exposure will impact you both immediately and future career.

3. 2 letters of recommendation from faculty in the parent institution.

ELIBILITY

You are eligible if you are currently enrolled into the pre-final year of any one of the following courses.

  1. MB.ChB (5th year)
  2. B. Pharm (4th year)
  3. BSN (3rd year)
